Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine
Acupuncture involves the insertion of tiny needles at specific points on the body. It has been used successfully for thousands of years and is one of the oldest systems of healing. Currently in Asia, acupuncture is still used alongside conventional medicine in hospitals. Medical research demonstrates that it is effective for a wide variety of ailments, most notably for pain.
From a medical perspective, the insertion of needles causes various chemical messengers in the body to be released. These chemicals can reduce pain, reduce anxiety, promote sleep, and boost the immune system, just to name a few!
There are over 300 acupuncture points, each with it's own functions. These points are combined to create an individualized treatment that can address different problems in the same session (back pain and insomnia for example). Naturopathic Doctors have extensive training on how to utilize these points safely and effectively. Acupuncture needles are very small and thin, so sessions are quite comfortable.
